Artist Stevan Dohanos

(American- 1907-1994) Stevan Dohanos made his mark as a nationally famous cover artist for The Saturday Evening Post and chronicler of Americana, but he began at the bottom.

He studied nights at the Cleveland School of Art long enough to get a job as an apprentice letterer, and gradually developed a solid studio background. A hard worker, he simultaneously painted and printed woodcuts for national exhibitions. [The Illustrated Gallery]

Shame its so small, it might be my favorite, ‘Frozen Laundry’

Thanks for commenting, I notice you have QUITE the mix on your site. One I noticed was an artist by the name of Szukalski, he had a great piece about Purple. Another one with great color was ‘Orb Descending Into Canyon’. Even if its not a person’s chosen genre you can usually find something neat about most art.

I call these types my “jigsaw puzzle” art. With lots of people and animals and things going on. The art world I think looks down on this genre, but I love it. (Something just occurred to me. I mention in a similar post that a lot of artists were doing this style back in the time of Rockwell, for advertising and magazines. Now this style is completely ‘uncool’. Maybe its too much of a leap to say its a barometer of where we are at as a society, but I’m not to sure.)
