Mitchellville after dark

Actually it was Mitchellville an hour or two after sunrise and the glare was horrific! Next photo shoot will be late afternoon/evening.
Can just make out the elevator

Looking right at ‘the house’ (trees)

It’s still yellow! (you can’t tell from the picture so much, but its yellow)

Across from you guys S.W. (Elmer Blood’s house)

Jacobsen’s (south)
South of town, used to be the Hoing’s (Ruth had signed the guest book) Okay I always thought this was the Hoing house, but its not.

Looking up 4th Street

Looking at what would be the pasture, wish I had been intrepid enough to go see what it looked like!

You forget just how “rednecky” Mitchellville is, once you’ve been gone and are now an “outsider”. They seem very suspicious of strangers, and not the sort of welcoming town I remember. Perhaps the strangest of all was talking to two summer workers at the elementary. I was asking about the former principal Dave Edwards (roughly 1964 to 2007), they did not know who he was! How do you work at Mitchellville Elementary and not know who Dave Edwards was??

Yeah small town Iowa. The guy ran youth basketball leagues in the winter, summertime activity programs, flag football in the fall, he personally hand painted all the playground equipment ‘silver’ when school let out. On top of running a prison ministries out of Newton! (I was taking photos for a friend who now lives in Florida, thought she might get a kick out of seeing the place 50 years later!)

Which of the fabulous 50 is your fair State?

Yeah I have no idea what’s happening. My apologies. I had the feeling for some reason eastern seaboard. Born and raised there? I assumed you were from football country. The team speed there is so shocking to us Big 10 types. Is there much of a difference between W. Virginia and Virginia? I meant as States, not football teams.

No problem, it seems like WP is where the screwup is. I eventually gave up trying on the Jackie Chan one. I was from Pennsylvania originally, then Tennessee and Virginia, etc. Culturally, Virginia is more citified than West Virginia.

I just looked up January mean temperature for VA. They said 48. That’s sissy weather! You need to come to the Midwest if you want to suffer. I know when I was in the service 40 years ago the best people I ran into were from Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, southern Missouri, Arkansas and Mississippi. I think the whole country has changed since then.
