Back in the day Bob Barker’s “Price Is Right” had what they called ‘product models’. It wasn’t just that game show, attractive young women had been used to sell a plethora of products back then. Price Is Right called their models “Barker’s Beauties“. Salesmen (keen observers of the human condition) had noted that men like to look at beautiful women. Throw in a little sexual titillation and wallets open easier. Political correctness is such this would never happen today. Today on Price Is Right models are not only fully clothed, many are men! What the hell?
Much like music in the 70’s, we had no idea civilization was at its zenith and we had better enjoy it while it lasted. Back then others may have tried to imitate Barker’s Beauties, but no one could have come close. Kind of like the 1960 Yankees lineup (Mantle, Maris, Bera, Kubek, Arroyo, Ditmar…) that ain’t never going to happen again. Dian Parkinson, Holly Hallstrom and Janice Pennington were that All-Star lineup. Later it came out that Barker had slept with one or more of them and there was quite a scandal. Naturally, I was shocked. Shocked! (and dare I say appalled)
What a time to be alive in Hollywood, when a cute face and a great pair of gazongas could get you on TV! (in the order listed, Dian, Holly, Janice)
Early CD player for what were called “phonograph records”
Okay so screen captures from a 50 year old TV show didn’t exactly translate to great photos.
